On the September 11th edition of The Talk, Julie Chen revealed that she underwent blepharoplasty (an eyelid lift) after her news director told her she’d never become an anchor because she had “Asian eyes.” While she battled with thoughts and family concerns that she was turning her back on her heritage, she did undergo the eyelid surgery and saw her career take off.
Studies Find People Pair Skills with Facial Features
How you look impacts your success. A Duke study found that the size of a person’s facial features impacts how others perceive them. Having a “baby face” often gives others the impression that you’re inexperienced, but having large eyes also makes others feel you are not as intelligent. A Yale study found that people who are not considered attractive make an average of nine percent less than someone considered to be attractive. People judge a person’s talents partially on facial features, height, and weight.
Plastic surgeons are reporting increases in women between the ages of 40 and 59 who are seeking to soften lines on their face and look refreshed to remain competitive in the workforce. An eyelid lift is one way to help reduce the signs of aging. The surgery reduces bags under the eyes and drooping eyelids that can create a tired, worn appearance. In Julie Chen’s case, the surgery helped open her eyes to make her look friendlier and engaged.
