Pairing cosmetic surgeries together makes sense. You save money by only needing to undergo anesthesia one time, and you combine recovery times so you don’t need to take a lot of time off from work. An increasing number of men and women are pairing rhinoplasty with chin augmentation procedures to create the ideal facial profile.
Scientists at Italy’s University of Verona studied a group of 90 men and women who had combined chin augmentation and rhinoplasty. They followed them for two years and then did a follow-up interview three years later. More than half of the participants had not experienced any loss of chin length in that time. In addition, they stated that the chin, neck, and nose all worked in conjunction to create an aesthetically pleasing profile. If a chin is too small, it can make the nose appear larger. When a chin is proportionately sized through a chin augmentation, it balances the nose and improves facial harmony.
What to Expect During Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the size and shape of the nose. Common problems that people want corrected are drooping tips, flared nostrils, and a hump on the bridge. During a rhinoplasty, your surgeon makes incisions on the inside of the nostrils or on the underside of the nose between the nostrils. Bone and cartilage are excised when the nose is too large, but in cases where a nose is too small, the addition of cartilage grafts may be required.
After the surgery, you will have bruising on the cheeks and under the eyes. This bruising starts to fade after a week and can take a few weeks to disappear completely. Swelling is also common and can take months to resolve. You’ll see the final shape of your new nose after a year.
What to Expect During a Chin Augmentation
With a chin augmentation, the facial plastic surgeon makes an incision inside the mouth or right below the chin. A chin implant is inserted through this incision and secured to the front of the jawbone. If you have a double chin, your plastic surgeon may suggest having a submental lipectomy performed to remove the fat and skin causing the double chin. This helps improve the appearance of the augmented chin.
Following a chin augmentation, you will experience mild bruising and swelling. Swelling generally clears up after a week, and bruising takes a second week in most patients. You may feel some mild discomfort for a few days, but your surgeon will inform you as to the pain medications you can use.
